A Word From the Editor

Hello Student.

Fear not. I am one of you. I have a loan, I have expenses and, (perhaps fortunately) I have an overdraft. I have housemates, some of whom I get along with. Sometimes. I have lost days. I have unspeakable nights. I have an overworked sofa and an unemployed desk. I have a blocked sink. Most crucially however, I have an appetite. And it needs sating.

Student, I can't be alone in feeling underwhelmed by the droves of carbon-copy university-goer's cookbooks slouching complacently on the shelves of your nearest Waterstones. You know the sort. Those brightly-covered, sqaure microwave manuals, fustianly awaiting gratification for their '10 Ways to Eat Spaghetti Hoops' featurette, and endless list of 'Quick Meal Ideas for under £2.50', in which it appears to purport that the key criterion of a 'good' recipe is its ability to be thrown together in under fifteen minutes.

I, for one, am tired of these cookbooks and their infinite regurgitations of beans-on-toast variations. It is an insult to our intelligence, our patience, and our palettes, and we deserve better. And so is born the concept of 'The Great Student Night In'. On this page you'll find recipes with innovation and ambition, fun ideas for themed nights, and useful tips for throwing some great dishes.  Real recipes for students with a passion for proper food. I hope you enjoy, Student.

Yours,

Josh
